Find out more about the Edison GEM

Now, some of you are reading this and thinking, "WOW -- I'VE GOT ONE OF THOSE RARE MODEL C PHONOGRAPHS!!" But we should point out that many, many Phonographs have a "Model C" reproducer. The words "Model C" are written on the needle head. But that's different from having a Model C machine -- if you read "Model C" on your machine you do not have one, you only have a Model C needle head.
Here we see the ID plate of the Gem -- the letter "C" all the way at the end of the serial number is what indicates this is a Model C machine.

Further distinguishing the Model C Gem was the kind of fancy decoration that Edison would carry over into the Model D series. Previous Gems had used very simple decorations. Starting with the Model Cs, Gem became much prettier.

Not only is this machine in nice condition, it has its correct, factory-issued flower horn -- and the condition of the horn is excellent, too. These flower horns are rare themselves, and rarer still in this kind of condition. Edison did not use primer on the metal, so these horns have shown a tendency to peel, rust and deteriorate over the decades. The paint on this one, while not absolutely perfect, is still SHINY!
